Pardon My Indignation

January 30, 2008

Excuse me if I’m an angry person lately. I’ve got a lot of things on my mind. In two weeks I’m moving out of a city I hate, but away from a lot of people I love. I have a million things to do between now and then, without much free time in which to accomplish them. I’m moving to a place where I know very few people and didn’t have a good experience when I lived there for a year way back in ‘98-’99. I go there on a leap of faith really because at the moment I have no job and my financial burden will – oh I don’t know- triple?

Politicians are doing their very best to absolutely fool voters. Is this what the country has come to? They present a ballot proposition - which will extend term limits of those corrupt in power – that are disguised as a bill that will limit their terms. This will empower a philanderer who spends campaign fund on travel and wine, a punk who was investigated by the FBI for being on the take, a champion of child porn collectors, a finger wagging nanny, and a man obsessed with giving drivers licenses to illegals.

In LA we have an illegal tax of 10% on our phone usage. It is outrageous. My phone bill in LA is 3 times more expensive as it was when I lived in Orlando. As I said, it is illegal and will be thrown out by a judge. Instead of doing what they should do as our representatives and give the money back that they stole from us the last 4 years, they have put a measure on the ballot for us to legally vote the tax back into law. How? Well, they lie. They present the vote as a tax REDUCTION! If we vote “yes” on the measure and the phone tax will be reduced to 9%. Wow, what a great deal! Well, it’s not a reduction. The tax is illegal and will be gone soon, if you vote yes on the “reduction” you are being fooled into legalizing the tax – just at 1% less. And if you vote this 9% tax in it will expand to taxing texting and internet use. What an outrage. Oh by the way, what is the justification for this phone tax? To fund the Spanish-American War.

Last night I just watched a bunch of elderly morons tear the Republican party apart. While they claimed top issues to be the economy and illegal immigration, yet they selected a man who doesn’t know anything about the former and is an absolute Benedict Arnold on the latter. The man fights dirty and wins like a loser.

Not only this but I am just shocked at the lack of basic Christian moral values among “Christians.” A very popular search engine hit for my blog the past few days has been some variation of “Gordon B. Hinckley + in Hell.” I would venture a guess that most people doing these searches are not atheists. These people are most likely Christians, whatever that means anymore. I no longer bristle at being accused of “not being “Christian” - I don’t want to be one. It is just a name, a label created by man and not God. It is increasingly a brand name that represents hate and intolerance. “Christians” have long forgot what Christ was all about – they have lost their way. I’d rather be a Latter-Day Saint than a Christian.

An example, as I found on Times and Seasons:

The wonderful folk at the Westboro Baptist Church have announced plans to picket President Hinckley’s funeral. These nutters — who are not affiliated with mainstream Baptists — are known for marching at U.S. soldier funerals with placards that read, “God Hates F***s.”

Yesterday’s muddled press release (warning: the URL is itself offensive, and the press release is pretty bad) states that President Hinckley and Mormons generally are “[gay] enablers” and announces that therefore, “Gordon Hinckley is in Hell.”

My understanding of the constitutional issues is that the First Amendment probably protects these kinds of protests. It will be interesting to see church member reaction. Hopefully, members will be able to avoid the urge to escalate, which would only play into the protesters’ hands.

The world is going to hell, and doesn’t really matter where I live when it happens.

Rest In Peace: Gordon B. Hinckley

January 28, 2008

The Mormon prophet died a couple of hours ago. There isn’t much to say. He was just about as great a man the world has ever seen in my opinion. I always thought I would be horribly sad, but it hasn’t happened yet. He gave us a lot of really good years.

Rest In Peace

January 17, 2008

Just a couple days before Christmas a dear friend of our family passed away. Maurice was my Grandfather’s cousin and the most well known Blasket Island survivor in Ireland. My family was lucky enough to see him one last time just a couple of months before his passing. He is actually pictured in the Irish magazine cover several blogs entries down. This news certainly brought a spirit of sadness to an otherwise wonderful Christmas where our family was together for the firs time in 2 1/2 years.

Here is part of the email we received:

Last Thursday morning, Maurice passed away in Dingle hospital. It happened quickly and peacefully. His funeral mass was today (Saturday) in Dunquin and afterwards in Ventry. It was a nice occasion with a lot of wellwishers both Friday and Saturday. There were fiiting tributes both at the mass and at the burial where he was led in through a guard of honour with naomhog (boat) oars held aloft. People were thankful for his kindness and patience and respectful of his love and knowledge for the Blasket Island and others.

My Father The Hero

January 17, 2008

My Father’s Birthday was last month. He has taught me nearly everything I know about everything. It would be impossible for me to put how I feel about him into words, so I’ll just post a few pictures of him in his classic teaching pose.

I Watched Huckabilly Lie Last Night

January 11, 2008

Mike Huckabee is a scum bag. Last night on the post debate Hannity and Colmes, Huckabee was asked about the early release of Wayne DuMond.

He stated that he had written a letter to DuMond letting him know that he would not be commuting his sentence.

Of course he that is true. He isn’t stupid. He officially refused to commute DuMond’s sentence early because if anything were to go wrong, it would point back directly to him. Instead, after distracting everyone with the one hand, the other hand was pressuring the parole board to release DuMond, which they did. After being released, DuMond went ahead and killed two women.

Wayne DuMond

Now why would Huckleberry do something like this? Well, there was quite the rabid anti-Clinton sentiment in the Arkansas Republican party at the time, and DuMond just happened to rape Bill Clinton’s third cousin. The hacks in Arkansas painted DuMond as a victim (which he wasn’t) of the Clinton attack machine (which is real nevertheless.)

Huckabee was a new Governor and beholden to people who got them there. He may not have been filled with anti-Clinton rage, but he went along with it. He was inexperienced and easily led at the very least. He also may have been swayed by his liberal-Christian values that say to forgive just about anyone who has committed a crime and let them back on the streets. Huckabee ended up granting 1,033 pardons while in office, this is more than the three previous Governors combined. More than that number times two! This includes pardon slinger Bill Clinton himself. Not only this, but DuMond had claimed to be “born again.” Of course Huckabee wanted him free.

So how does Huckabee mislead? Whenever he is asked about his pressuring of the parole board to free DuMond, in a sly way he answers a totally different question. He quotes the letter he wrote to DuMond himself about feeling for him but not being able to cut his sentence short. This of course has nothing to do with his interaction with the parole board, but most people don’t ask follow up questions – and Alan Colmes didn’t either.

Just as an aside, this is not someone I want in the white house. He reminds me of President Charles Logan. If you are a fan of 24, you know that isn’t a compliment.

Rest in Peace: Johnny Grant

January 10, 2008

Johnny Grant, honorary Mayor of Hollywood passed away tonight. Over the last three years I’ve had occasion to talk with Johnny several times at various functions. If there ever was a nicer guy, I haven’t met him.
