New Blog

September 27, 2007

I have started to post in my running blog this week. We will see how long it lasts or if Dan gets a chance to post. I hope it will improve my training by adding some accountability to my goals. I plan on changing the name and header image — I don’t like either.

Pictures From My Project

September 27, 2007

I’m going to share some pictures from my new documentary. We are currently working on a new website and moving hard drives around so we can edit together a trailer. Of course when these things are ready, I will make them available. The reason I’m not in most of these pictures is because I’m usually the one with the camera. I have a lot more pictures on the way, when I get them I may post them.

Speaking of California Politics

September 22, 2007

In Los Angeles it is very hard to feel represented. Republicans (or any other group) find it nearly impossible to get any kind of foothold in city politics. This is dangerous for all of us. People like Rocky Delgadillo and Antonio Villaraigosa are threatened with a much smaller chance of repercussions for their actions. There is no fear for these men. The power is unchecked.

This is a similar problem to what Democrats complained about for six years regarding the Bush Administration enjoying unchecked power. And they were right. It is a very dangerous thing on both sides. There is very little hope for change anytime soon. The whole state is carved out in such a way where the holder of the state and national representative — Democrat or Republican — basically has a seat for life. There is a stunning lack of competitive races across the state. What incentive do politicians have to even pander to the other side?!

There are similar problems in my beloved home state of Vermont. Republicans in the State Assembly are as low as they have ever been since the James Buchanan Administration. The only thing checking their power is Governor Jim Douglas and he can’t do it alone. What do we have is a result? Ridiculous taxes, businesses fleeing for other New England states, depressing demographics, and towns with populations of 400 wasting time on meaningless calls for impeachment and empty threats of secession.

Seacrest out.

Day of Cowardice

September 22, 2007

The City of Los Angeles has settled with exposed opportunist Tennie Pierce. The settlement reached is a reported $1.43M. I suppose this is not a total loss, as it is a $1.3M savings from the original agreement that was nixed by Governor Villaraigosa last fall. But how will change ever come? How will we ever eliminate the things that plague our society when we scarcely ever muster the will to stand up and fight them?

In the end, we couldn’t realistically expect more from our adulterant Governor and a City Attorney that in the year since the original firestorm has proven to be woefully corrupt, unqualified, hypocritical, and a liar. (Among other things, etc., etc.)

And you wonder why I’m sick of LA.

Forgive Me

September 19, 2007

My lack of blogging has not been due to a lack of action in real life. Quite the opposite. I’ve spent nearly half of this calendar year living in Vermont and working in Connecticut and surrounding areas to finish my documentary. This entails a lot of side work like developing a web site, creating a business, looking for funding beyond my own bank account, and countless other demands.

This is my main focus, but I’ve got several other things going on. Here is a taste:

  •  Two other documentaries I’m developing. I’m not prepared to let the kittens out of the bag but they are more explosive than my current project.
  • Several screenplays. (Blah, until further notice.)
  • Preparing a pitch for a possible new television show. Cross your fingers.
  • Traveling across the country twice in 10 days. It wasn’t too too bad.
  • Training for my first full marathon. Dr. Dan and I are training now, and I’m battling some injuries as best I can. We are running a 5K next month. I’ve started a blog in which Danny and I might or might not write anything about our training experience. PS. Eliza, I love the running socks you got me for Christmas. They are incredibly comfortable and effective. I’ve bought several more pairs and will continue to do so.
  • Pretty close to an obsession with the once hated game of tennis.
  • A budding interest in the once hated “sport” of golf. (We’ll see if this holds up.)
  • Reading entirely too much about BYU football, agonizing over the Red Sox and pining for the start of the Celtics campaign.
  • I have a lot of really fun shot blogs planned for my myspace blog as well.

I’m also preparing for some rather large happenings. My brother returns from his mission to Germany in December, a visit to see my Mother and Sister who have moved to Utah temporarily (a grand excuse for a couple of live football games,) a visit to Ireland in about two and a half weeks, and my 4th Red Sox game of the year down in Boston on the 25th. That marks my best attendance in years.

Note to Joe and Eliza: We really need to start up our masochistic blog about Jay Leno and the anti-dictionary. The world needs these things.

I hope to keep better up to date, as I told myself I wouldn’t let this blog fade like I did with my last one. I hope to add some other pages about what I am reading at any one time and maybe even a blatant rip off of my Sister’s “what I wiki” page. Mine will be much more incriminating though.

Until next year…
